I do NOT want to be another webiste or blog that throws a bunch of ‘shoulds’ at moms! I don’t know how to parent your kid, and I’m skeptical of a lot of the research in child development and education myself. If anything, I want a forum for us out there in the trenches of teaching and parenting to discuss some of the latest research on kids.
This is a forum where parents, teachers, psychologists, and others can discuss topics related to the dynamic lives of young people aged 12-18 in an open-minded, supportive, and sometimes humorous manner. As a Child Development major and teacher, I find so much information on early childhood development and elementary-school aged children, but woefully little on ’tweens’ and teens.
Why are there no definitive experts on the tween/teen set? Seems that early childhood has Dr. Sears, Karp, and Po Bronson. Are parents just done reading up on child development? And what does really happen in that fascinating time between childhood and adulthood? I want to hear your stories!!
My goal is to post a short article and my response to it every two weeks. I want to address ‘hot topics’ and other buzzwords we all hear around the halls of education and psychology.
